Biography

Dr. Hossein Lavvafi earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. After completing his doctoral studies, he worked as a Senior Scientist in the medical device industry, where he led multiple R&D projects in orthopedics and medical devices. His work focused on developing high-performance implant alloys and surgical instruments.

He later transitioned to medical physics, joining the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Eleanor N. Dana Cancer Center at the University of Toledo Medical Center. To further his specialization, he completed a two-year CAMPEP-accredited residency in therapeutic medical physics at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology and an active member of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).

Dr. Lavvafi has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, patents, book chapters, and conference presentations. He has also served as a technical reviewer for esteemed journals, including Medical Physics, Acta Materialia, Materials Characterization, Materials Science and Engineering A, and Optics and Laser Technology.

His expertise and research interests have included radiation oncology medical physics, MR-guided radiation therapy, laser-material interactions, mechanical characterization and reliability of metals, material selection, and alternative materials and processes.
